As we near our 2015 Fall CAN Conference, our team focus turns to one of our amazing planning committee member, Wendy C Browder.

Wendy C. Browder –  Sumitomo Electric Wiring Systems

  1. What is your official title and role within your company? EMS Coordinator – I am responsible for ISO14001 internal auditing as well as Corporate oversight for our Kaizen and Suggestion Programs.

2. What services do you/your company offer to Honda and Honda affiliate suppliers?

Wire harnesses, center panels, components and terminals, fuse boxes.

3. What is something that you would like people to know about your company that they may not be aware of?

We have started many new initiatives for associate development such as wellness programs, manufacturing summits where all manufacturing locations meet to benchmark ideas on projects or programs that affect their individual locations and a new enhanced training program for all associates.

4. What’s your favorite part of your job? What’s the most challenging?

I love my job.  I love to travel and see new things and meet new people.  I also love to see what a big difference can be made by small changes by our kaizen teams!

Time management is the biggest challenge.  Like this year, I will be at the CAN conference the first week of April and then the very next week is our ISO14001 audit which is also my responsibility so late March and early April is going to be a little stressful this year!

5. What’s your best piece of professional advice?

Don’t be afraid to try new things or new ways of doing things.  Just because something works doesn’t mean there is an ever better way to do something.

6. Why should associates become involved in a circles program? (applicable for those involved in Circles programs)

Circle activities provide a way for associates to use their creative abilities to get their ideas heard in the workplace.  These activities can save the company money but also save operators time and energy in their day to day tasks.

7. Short Bio

I am a graduate of Western Kentucky University (Go Tops!) with degrees in General Studies (2000) and Environmental Health Science (2010).  I started at Sumitomo way back in 2001 as an accounts payable clerk.  I moved up to sales assistant and then eventually in 2006 into my current position.   SEWS was my first “real job” after college and I really enjoy what I do and the people I work with.
