Managing Telecommuting/Remote Work in the Japanese Environment – Webinar

Mar 19, 2020
10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
Pacific Time Online
United States

With coronavirus fears causing more of our clients in both the U.S. and Japan to have more employees work at home, we decided to offer this special webinar to support our clients who want to make this style of working as effective as possible.

This webinar will be relevant for Japanese firms, and for non-Japanese firms with operations in Japan.

The Japanese workstyle has traditionally been focused on everyone being in the same place at the same time, which has worked against the adoption of telecommuting. But with increasing emphasis on work-life balance, promoting women’s workforce participation, and now the new coronavirus, more firms in Japan, and Japanese companies’ operations in the U.S., are introducing work-at-home arrangements. Remote teams are also becoming more common.

This 90-minute webinar will cover techniques for getting the best results from remote working situations. The following topics will be included:
• Why telecommuting is not popular in Japan
• Concerns that Japanese managers typically have about remote workers
• Best practices for remote work
• Setting your communication and software tools
• Including the remote worker in the informal communication processes
• Tracking progress and task management
• Visualizing results – a challenge of remote work, and how to solve it
• Effective teleconferences and videoconferences
• Techniques for increasing team spirit when everyone is in different locations

The webinar will be taught by Japanese business culture expert Rochelle Kopp and management consultant Susan Doctors, who both have long experience supporting Japanese organizations in effectively managing remote work situations.

Register at the link below. You will have a choice of attending live ($25), receiving a recording ($15), or both ($30).

As an add-on to the webinar, we are also offering a bilingual set of forms, policies, and guidelines for managing work-at-home employees in Microsoft Word that you can tailor to your company’s situation, for $250.

We are also holding a Japanese language version of this webinar on March 12th. Click here for further information on that session in English and in Japanese.

Japan Intercultural Consulting is also available to consult with companies on effective management of at-home workers and remote teams. *If you have specific questions you would like us to address in the webinar, please write them in the “Additional Attendee Names and Notes” section of the registration form.
