The Honda Sales and Production Update reports the monthly status of Honda production, inventory and sales along with relevant news highlights. The December report also includes information about the entire calendar year.

This month, highlights include:

  • North American and U.S. production decreased in 2021 compared to 2020 due primarily to reduced production related to parts shortages
  • Industry sales in the U.S. rose 3.3% in 2021, with American Honda sales increasing 8.9%
  • U.S. incentives in December decreased 12.9% from November, but averaged $430 below the industry average
  • Overall inventory remained steady at six days in December, with inventory of every vehicle at critically low levels for most of the second half of 2021
  • U.S. power equipment sales decreased 6.1% in 2021 compared to 2020
  • U.S. powersports sales rose 7% in December compared to December 2020
  • Honda Canada sales increased 5.3% in 2021 compared to 2020, while inventory of all but one model finished the year below the ideal level

March Sales and Production Update
The Covid 19 outbreak had a major impact on March sales and will have a drastic impact April sales.  
Highlights include:
  • Auto sales fall nearly 50% in the U.S. and Mexico, and more than 58% in Canada due to the COVID-19 situation
  • U.S. Power Equipment sales increased 25% compared to March 2019, with lawn mower sales up 24% and generator sales up 20%
     
For this update release, the inventory slides have been removed. Dealer inventory is calculated on the daily sales volume, which has been dramatically affected due to the COVID-19 situation. The resulting spike in inventory levels is not indicative of true inventory levels under normal business conditions.

Highlights include:
  • North American and U.S. production fell compared to February 2019
    • Production continues to be negatively impacted by the reduction of one shift on MAP Line 1 and the elimination of production at HDM Guadalajara

  • U.S. incentives averaged $1,953, a decline of 14.3% compared to February 2019
