Honda Adjusts Isolation & Quarantine Guidelines to Match CDC Recommendation

Honda is adjusting its protocols regarding the number of days for COVID-19 isolation and quarantine to align with recent changes announced by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Previously the CDC recommended 10 days of isolation for those who were experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or tested positive, as well as 10 days of quarantine for non-symptomatic individuals who were not fully vaccinated and were exposed to someone with COVID-19. Last week, the CDC reduced the 10-day recommendation to 5 days and added 5 days of quarantine for exposure cases for some fully vaccinated individuals.
Honda in turn is adjusting its guidelines to align with this change. Effective today, Honda will begin to use the following approach to isolation and quarantine protocol. Note: this does not pertain to associates who work in California. A separate communication will be shared with our associates in California related to their state approach.
Isolation: Associates who fit one of these two categories, Suspected Case (exposure to COVID-19 with symptoms) or Confirmed Case (tested positive with or without symptoms), may return to work after 5 days from when symptoms first appeared, or if not symptomatic, then 5 days from when they tested positive. The associate must also meet one of the following criteria.
  • No symptoms;
  • Medically released; or
  • Recovered – at least 24 hours since fever (100.4° F or greater) without the use of fever reducing medication, and improved symptoms.
Quarantine: For associates who have been exposed to COVID-19 but are not symptomatic, the following applies.
  • Recently fully vaccinated (0 days of quarantine):
    • Associate is fully vaccinated and has received a booster
    • Associate received final primary dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines less than 6 months ago
    • Associate received dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine less than 2 months ago
    • Reminder: Fully vaccinated means more than two weeks passed since receiving the final primary dose.
  • Fully vaccinated but time has passed (5 days of quarantine)
    • Associate is fully vaccinated but has not received a booster and more than 6 months have passed since they received the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine
    • Associate is fully vaccinated but has not received a booster and more than 2 months have passed since they received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
  • Unvaccinated, not fully vaccinated or status information not provided (5 days of quarantine).
Associates do not need to register their booster status at this time. When new COVID-19 symptoms or exposure are reported after January 11,  Honda COVID Helpline staff will inquire about booster status to collect the necessary information to manage to the updated protocol.
We appreciate everyone’s support in working through the challenges caused by the COVID-19 virus. The health and safety of our associates remains our highest priorities.
