How You Will Benefit The basic tools of quality is a designation given to a fixed set of graphical techniques identified as being most helpful in troubleshooting issues related to quality. They are called basic because they are suitable for people with little formal training in statistics and because they can be used to solve the clear majority of quality-related issues. are tools which arrange problem areas, put data into diagrams, surface problem areas and clearly bring up any hidden truth. These tools are not for experts alone but for the use of everyone in their daily work. A problem-solving team’s successes are dependent on the familiarity and ease with which these tools are used.

Once the basic problem solving, or quality improvement process is understood, the addition of quality tools can make the process proceed more quickly and systematically. The Basic Quality Tools can be used by any professional to ease the quality improvement process: flowcharts, pareto charts, cause and effect diagrams, scatter diagrams and run charts.

The Basic Tools of Quality can be used singularly or in tandem to investigate a process and identify areas for improvement, although they do not all necessarily need to be used. If a process is simple enough – or the solution obvious enough – any one may be all that is needed for improvement. They provide a means for doing so based on facts, not just personal knowledge, which of course can be tainted or inaccurate.
